We are persons with depression or manic-depressive illness; we are family member of persons with the illness; we are professionals working with the illness. We work together in a nonprofit organization we set-up over ten years ago.
The name of our organization is the Depression and Related Affective Disorders Association (DRADA).
Our mission is to alleviate the suffering arising from depression and manic depression by assisting self-help groups, providing education and information, and lending support to research programs.
Our web site is one way we try to meet these goals.
We pursue our mission with volunteers and a small staff.
We work in cooperation with the Department of Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, which helps us ensure that our materials are medically accurate, as well as co-sponsoring our annual mood disorders research/education symposiums.
Our funding is obtained from membership dues, gifts, program fees, book and video sales, and small project grants.
